I used to enjoy grocery shopping a lot more before I started educating myself. Now I just get frustrated when I grocery shop. We do not have a health food store in our area, so it can be quite challenging to buy healthy. Last week my youngest son was with me and he was asking for some snacks that have NO nutritional value what-so-ever. I made a deal with him. If he could find this type of snack without any corn syrup listed on the ingredients I would buy it. Needless to say I did not make the purchase. High fructose corn syrup has made it's way into so many of our foods. The manufactureres have tried to get creative in what they call it now too. Processed foods are full of it. It is difficult to even find apple sauce with out it. Why on earth does someone need to add it to apple sauce?
The attached article has some general info. It definitely gives us something to think about...

American Kids are the Most Medicated in the World
I knew that American kids were overmedicated, but I had no idea it was to this degree. Doctors really are drugging our children and we need to stop turning a deaf ear on this subject.
"The amount of drugs being given to U.S. children is outrageous, and the extent of the problem becomes clear when you compare the statistics with other countries. U.S. children are getting three times more prescriptions for antidepressants and stimulants, and up to double the amount of antipsychotic drugs than kids from Germany and the Netherlands."

Contaminated Infant Formula
We all know that breast feeding is the best start a mother can give her baby, but sometimes this is just not possible and there are situations where formula is needed. In the link below it is explained how the FDA one day states that there is no safe amount of melamine that should be allowed in infant formulas. Melamine is the toxic chemical linked to kidney damage, according to recent tests. Once it was discovered that approximately 90% of infant formulas in the US contained melamine, the FDA decided it was safe after all. Read the article below and be sure you are making safe choices for you baby.
