There is so much research out there that shows that allowing kids with ADHD to fidgit helps in their learning. This article does a really good job of explaining why that is. There are too many teachers out there who do not understand this. If giving a child a squishy ball to squeeze helps a kid learn...then do it. It does not have to be something that is disruptive to the entire calss. I know one teacher who instead of placing the ADHD kid in the front row so she can "keep a close eye on him", she placed his seat in the back of the room so he could squirm and wiggle and sit on his knees. This way he does not block the view of other students. Several parents try to "make" their ADHD kids sit perfectly still during homework. This is not beneficial to anyone. Parents are fighting a losing battle. The kid simply cannot do is. He/she is not trying to be disobedient, they can't help it. Do not take me wrong on this topic. I belive there has to be limits and expectations, but try to have a little understanding for how these kids tick.
